Who am I?

I am Audra, and I am a painter of vibrant canvases, a drawer of digital dreams, and a colorer of impossible things. I create art so I may push myself to break the rules. So I will let go of the notion of “proper” and “correct”, because art can be anything. There is no “wrong” in art.

What’s the plan?

I’m on a mission to pull people out of their world, to create art that draws them into a moment of hope or excitement, passion or serenity, love or loathing.  I’m a virtual travel agent in paint-smudged coveralls. You love bold colors and exploration, and aren’t interested in traditional portraits, so you came here. Welcome!

Audra, girl, painting, abstract, portrait, brokenWhat *do* I paint?

Admittedly, I’ve gone the traditional portrait route a couple of times, mostly to see if I could. But if you’re joining me on this journey, be prepared for some exploration. In many ways I’m still finding my voice, but I’m thinking my style is leaning more towards Picasso or Modigliani, as opposed to Renoir or Van Eyck.

Who buys my art?

My artwork has been seen in Germany, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, and locales all over the United States, thanks to purchases from my store on Zazzle. How cool is that?! I love the idea that people from all over the globe saw my work and it spoke to them, loud enough for them to bring it into their homes.

Where was I edumacated?

Despite the fact that I was born in Oklahoma and grew up in Texas, I was not, in fact, expected to graduate from high school and immediately sign up to work on an offshore oil derrick or sign up for the Miss Texas pageant. Instead, I was allowed to pursue my education at the University of North Texas, and focused my attention on the creative arts. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I’d taken more painting classes and fewer film classes, but I truly believe it’s never too late to learn, so exploring I shall go!

Where in the world am I?

After 14 years in sunny/smoggy southern California, I nabbed myself a husband, had a baby, then brought them both back to the Texas Hill Country, and from here I’ll paint, paint, paint! Watch this space for more art!
